Cambridge Audio has just announced the MXW70, a new compact power amplifier aimed at systems that prioritise simplicity without compromising performance. Measuring just 215 mm wide, the unit was designed to offer a discreet but capable option for smaller or more minimalist audio setups.

Despite its modest footprint, the MXW70 delivers solid output: 70 W per channel at 8 ohms in stereo, and up to 250 W bridged mono, thanks to its use of Hypex nCORE Class D amplification, a technology well-regarded for its balance of efficiency and sonic performance.

The design follows Cambridge Audio’s established half-width format, making it a natural fit alongside the MXN10 streamer and DacMagic 200M DAC. Together, the trio forms a modular stack that covers streaming, digital conversion, and amplification, without overtaking the living room or workspace.
Connectivity includes balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, ensuring compatibility with both professional and consumer-level sources.

Aesthetically, the MXW70 continues the brand’s understated industrial design language, with a Lunar Grey metal chassis and clean lines that blend into contemporary interiors without drawing too much attention.
With the MXW70, with a $€599/£499 price tag, Cambridge Audio continues to explore compact high-performance solutions — an increasingly relevant direction as listeners build more deliberate setups in smaller spaces, home studios, or workstations.
